3 CRITERIA OF SMART GLASSES

ROBUSTNESS

Smart glasses must meet the requirements for work in industrial conditions (resistance to noise, dust, temperature changes, etc.). They are also suitable for work in clean environments, such as the pharmaceutical industry.

PERFORMANCE

The overall performance of smart glasses depends on several aspects that affect it, for instance, battery life, camera resolution, sound performance, control, operating system, etc.

COMFORT

Smart glasses must be both comfortable to wear throughout the shift and compatible with all PPE. Wearing comfort affects the adoption of this technology and the final success of its deployment.

REALWEAR HMT-1

The world’s leading hands-free remote collaboration technology for industrial use. HMT-1 is a very durable device designed for work in all industrial conditions with IP66 certification and meets the military standard of resistance MIL-STD-810G. HMT-1 is used by global companies such as Trumpf, BMW, Airbus, Schlumberger, Shell, Coca-Cola, Koni, VW, DHL, Porsche, GE, Boeing, Mazak, PSA,…

The operating system of RealWear HMT-1 is completely controlled by voice commands. There is wide range of mounting options, they have integrated microphones and the battery can be easily replaced on the fly for continuous use.

REALWEAR HMT-1Z1

The HMT-1Z1 smart glasses are used, for example, by Shell, Total, Linde, Saudi Aramco, Honeywell, Gazprom, Texmark Chemicals, Italgas, National Oilwell Varco, …

VUZIX M400, M4000

Vuzix smart glasses have an ergonomic design, are comfortably shaped, light, relatively durable, and compatible with protective helmets.

The device can be controlled by both touch control and voice commands. The integrated touchpad may not always work properly when wearing work gloves, so special buttons can be used. Models differ in selected technical parameters.

GOOGLE GLASS ENTERPRISE EDITION 2

Glass are monocular smart glasses developed by Google. They are mainly characterized by their lightness. This makes them comfortable to wear throughout the working day.

The device can be controlled by both touch control and voice commands. This is an improved version designed by Google for professional use with longer battery life, optimized camera, and fast charging via the USB-C port.

EPSON MOVERIO BT300/350, BT-2000/2200

Binocular smart glasses with a semi-transparent display, which displays information to the center of the worker’s field of view. They are controlled by touch on a touchpad or a controller with buttons, which is connected by a cable with glasses. The wide spectacle frames result in low wearing comfort.

The device is not suitable for use in harsh conditions and hazardous industrial environments. Individual models differ in technical parameters, robustness, and primary focus – commercial or industrial.

MICROSOFT HOLOLENS 2

HoloLens 2 is Microsoft’s second-generation mixed reality glasses. In addition to improved hardware, binocular smart glasses offer 2k screen resolution, a flip up display, and gesture recognition for control.

Thanks to this technology, you can work with 3D objects in space. However, the overall durability is not as high as with other glasses. HoloLens are suitable mostly for visualizations and training, where it is necessary to work with 3D data.
